All These Medications!

Sometimes there is no getting around all of the medications that keep us going (and keep the side effects from those medications at bay) But how do you keep it all straight? Short of taking pharmacy courses, anyone can feel overwhelmed.

Perhaps you have a chronic disease, and can give a tutorial to med students about your regular medications and their side effects, half life and drug interactions, or you had surgery and need to take 4 new medications for the next 3 weeks. Whether you are very good at knowing the medications you take, or have just had surgery, or a short term setback, it is important to have information about your medication to keep you safe.

When preparing your medicatoin make sure there is :

  1. Adequate lighting to see your pill bottle and direction
  2. Minimal disruptions
  3. A process that works for you. (such as a pill dispenser, medication container..)

More information about medication safety and how you can protect family members – young and old – can be found at the National Council on Patient Information and Education (NCPIE).  NCPIE is a member of the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention.
